ITU Triathlon Championships, Auckland City

Another bonus of being in Auckland is seeing elite sportsmen and women.  Last weekend we watched the start of the ITU Triathlon Championships on Queens Wharf.  Auckland is the the first of seven world class events for the series, finishing in September this year in London.

The transformed Queens Wharf

Road closures were in place along the Viaduct and Quay St, so fortunately I had done shopping and washing in previous days so the weekend was for watching!  The kids and I went along and watched some of the elite women in the afternoon.  I am still amazed at how fast they do the course!

Swim: 1.5km, Cycle: 40km, Run: 10km - yikes!

Blake eager to see the cyclists coming out of transition again.

I felt great knowing that we had all walked from the Viaduct to Queens Wharf!  We went into the Cloud to have a look at the Expo, and the kids had a great time hugging the kiwi, playing in the Barfoot and Thompson cardboard house and jumping on the beanbags!

What a huge home!
